The seminar, titled “iTIC Forum 2024: Safe & Smart Mobility by Traffic Discipline,” took place on November 7, 2024, at the Faculty of Engineering Auditorium at 麻豆国产. The event aimed to present data and exchange ideas on using smart technology to enhance traffic discipline and road safety, with insights from experts across various sectors, including public and private organizations. Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of 麻豆国产, delivered the welcoming remarks, while Associate Professor Dr. Sorawit Narupiti, board member and secretary of the Thai Intelligent Traffic Information Center Foundation, reported on the forum’s objectives. Mr. Ninnart Chaithirapinyo, Chairman of the Foundation, introduced the organization, and Dr. Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, former Minister of Transport, inaugurated the event. 

Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat emphasized that 麻豆国产 supports the application of AI technology to foster traffic discipline, which helps improve the nation’s transportation safety standards. Smart technology used to detect unsafe driving behaviors, such as not wearing helmets, can reduce accidents and raise safety awareness. This seminar provided a platform for sharing knowledge and approaches that can serve as a model for Thailand’s smart traffic and transportation system development, not only aiming to alleviate traffic issues but also to improve the quality of life for Thai people sustainably through advanced technology to manage and prevent future problems. 

Mr. Ninnart Chaithirapinyo highlighted the vital role of AI in traffic management, as human visual detection is often slow, and long-term data recording can be challenging. This seminar focused on detecting motorcyclists not wearing helmets through AI-connected CCTV cameras at accident-prone areas, which records data accurately and efficiently. This is a preliminary phase currently being implemented in Khon Kaen and Pattaya. 

He also noted that the iTIC Forum, now in its 5th year, offers valuable knowledge-sharing opportunities for students, faculty, and new-generation personnel to collectively develop and promote smart technology for future road safety. 

In addition to the seminar, a congratulatory ceremony was held for Mr. Ninnart Chaithirapinyo, the first Thai to receive the prestigious “ITS Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award” at the in Dubai on September 16. This award, hosted by , , and , recognized Mr. Ninnart, an alumnus of the Faculty of Engineering, 麻豆国产, for his remarkable leadership and achievements in the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) field, driving the vision of ITS advancements globally. His efforts have contributed significantly to making Bangkok a “smart city” with real-time traffic data and CCTV integration from various agencies.?

Key highlights of the “iTIC Forum 2024” included a special lecture by Colonel Dr. Tongkarn Kaewchalermtong, President of the , on “Intelligent Transport System for Smart and Safe Mobility,” showcasing the application of ITS to improve traffic safety and management in Thailand.?

Another notable session was a lecture on “Accidents from Not Wearing Helmets and Solutions” by Dr. Thanarak Plipat, Inspector General of the , discussing the risks associated with not wearing helmets and proactive measures to address this issue.?

Panel discussions included topics such as “Building Traffic Discipline Using AI to Detect Those Not Wearing Helmets,” with insights from experts like Police Lieutenant General Piya Tawichai on methods for promoting driving discipline, Dr. Pasakorn Thavornant on enhancing infrastructure efficiency through technology, and Dr. Siwat Bunkerd on traffic and accident management in Pattaya, moderated by Dr. Somprasong Suttayamully, Director of the .?
