The Educational System Management Leadership Program, , 麻豆国产, in collaboration with , USA, organized the 5th International Conference on Educational System Management Leadership (ICESML 2026) under the theme “Building Global Education Futures through Intercultural Leadership.” The conference was held on May 29, 2026, at Duangduen Pisalbutr Conference Room, Faculty of Education, 麻豆国产. 

Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of 麻豆国产, delivered the welcome address. The event was officially opened by Mr. Prasert Jantararuangtong, Minister of Education, who also presented the ESML Leadership Award 2026 plaques to outstanding educational administrators across various sectors, including early childhood, primary, secondary, vocational, and international education. 

ICESML 2026 serves as an international platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences in educational system management, leadership, and current and future education policies. The conference promotes academic collaboration, educational innovation, and the development of future leaders in educational administration. Distinguished international speakers included Assoc. Prof. Brian K. Perkins, from Teachers College, Columbia University (USA), and Asst. Prof. Sam Bamkin, Ph.D., from the (Japan). The event also proudly recognized high school students who advanced to the final round of the Model APEC Junior Thailand 2026 competition. 

Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat stated that ICESML has been held continuously for the past five years, aiming to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, foster international academic collaboration, and promote leadership development in educational system management. This year’s conference focused on understanding emerging trends and changes in modern educational administration, particularly the development of intercultural leadership to shape the future of global education. It also recognized educational leaders through the ESML Leadership Award and supported youth potential through Model APEC Junior Thailand 2026 activities. 

The President further emphasized the evolving role of universities in today’s world. Universities are no longer limited to simply “providing education” but must create genuine “learning processes” for students. He highlighted the importance of cultural skills as a core element in leadership development and international engagement. Conference participants had the opportunity to exchange academic knowledge and perspectives throughout the event. 

Mr. Prasert Jantararuangtong, , noted that education systems worldwide are currently facing significant challenges, including technological transformation, artificial intelligence, climate change, and geopolitical shifts, all of which influence national development directions. Education must move beyond knowledge of transmission to become a key mechanism for developing individuals with critical thinking skills, responsible and ethical use of technology, and the ability to live creatively within cultural diversity. He emphasized that the Ministry of Education is shifting from rote learning toward competency-based learning to better prepare students, teachers, and administrators for the modern world, including the ethical and responsible use of AI. 

Thailand’s education system faces four major challenges: declining birth rates affecting school and university structures; technological changes creating inequalities in access to education, especially in remote areas; geopolitical shifts impacting education budgets and international cooperation; and climate change affecting students’ quality of life and learning. These challenges require the Ministry of Education to adjust its budget allocation priorities, placing greater emphasis on human capital development rather than solely on physical infrastructure investment. 

“Quality and equitable education serve as the foundation of national development. ICESML 2026 is an important platform for building collaborative networks, sparking new ideas, and advancing policies and educational innovations that truly respond to the future world,” the Minister of Education stated.
