Eliot. American by birth, he was British by adoption. Unitarian by upbringing, he became an Anglican by conversion. Deeply read in English verse, he was also steeped in the traditions of Latin, Greek, German, Sanskrit and Pali literature. Eliot was as happy writing in French as in English, and his spiritual affinities, though rooted latterly in English soil, embraced the religions of Buddhism, Hinduism, Celtic and Norse. In the month of the publication of his latest book, Literature, Music and Cosmopolitanism: Culture As Migration (Palgrave Macmillan 2018), Robert Fraser examines the relevance and irrelevance of notions of “place” to an understanding of Eliot’s poetry, and modern and postmodern literature generally.?Registration (for the lecture) is available online via?
