Chula Researchers Win Eight International Awards at Shanghai Innovation Expo 2026?

Researchers from 麻豆国产 have brought home six gold medals and two silver medals from the 9th China (Shanghai) International Invention & Innovation Expo 2026, held June 11–13, 2026, at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center.
The awards include three NRCT Special Award gold medals, two NRCT Special Award silver medals, and three I-New Gen Award 2026 gold medals, highlighting the university’s continued leadership in research, innovation, and technology development on the international stage.
The NRCT Special Award, presented by Thailand’s , recognizes Thai inventors and researchers whose innovations have achieved distinction in international competitions. The I-New Gen Award celebrates the creativity and innovation of young Thai researchers whose work addresses social and economic challenges and demonstrates strong potential for real-world impact and commercialization.
NRCT Special Award Gold Medal Recipients

- Paper-Based Test Strip for Visual Detection of Beta-Lactam and Colistin Resistance Genes
The research team from 麻豆国产’s developed a rapid paper-based diagnostic test that enables visual detection of antimicrobial resistance genes associated with beta-lactam and colistin antibiotics. The project was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuntaree Chaichanawongsaroj, with researchers Nutchaba Suchanta, Variya Nemidkanam, and Pattamaporn Deechart.
- ORELAX: Oregano-Derived Nanolipid Platform for Sustainable Aquatic Animal Health
Researchers from the developed ORELAX, an innovative nanolipid platform combining oregano extract and lauric acid to enhance aquatic animal health sustainably. The technology is designed to strengthen disease resistance while supporting environmentally responsible aquaculture practices. The research team included Prof. Dr. Nopadon Pirarat, Ratima Kumanbut, Asst. Prof. Dr. Wanna Sirimanapong, Dr. Sirikorn Kitiyodom, and Dr. Jakarwan Yostawonkul.

- Aquasense?: Multiplex Sensor Platform for Drinking Water Safety Assessment
A team from the developed Aquasense?, a sensor platform that integrates colorimetric and electrochemical technologies to evaluate drinking water safety. The innovation provides a comprehensive approach to water quality monitoring and public health protection.
The project was led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nadnudda Rodthongkum and Prof. Dr. Pranut Potiyaraj, alongside Dr. Pornchanok Punnoy, Dr. Benjawan Somchob, Dr. Chusak Thanawattano, and Pranee Rattanawaleedirojn.

NRCT Special Award Silver Medal Recipients
- Neosome-Based Encapsulation Technology for Black Seed and Kaffir Lime Oils
Researchers from the developed a neosome-based delivery system that enhances the stability and effectiveness of black seed and kaffir lime oils. The innovation has potential applications in health and wellness products.
The team consisted of Baddariyah Sohsansa, Nareeya Waloh, Dr. Kasinee Katelakha, and Sunainee Mahama.
- MicroBlack Dressing: Functional Salad Dressing Enriched with Black Seed Oil Microparticles
Also from the Halal Science Center, the MicroBlack Dressing project introduces a health-focused salad dressing fortified with black seed oil microparticles, combining nutritional benefits with consumer-friendly food innovation. The research team included Dr. Najwa Yanya Santiworakun, Hasam Chebaka, Netnapa Ontao, and Prof. Dr. Winai Dahlan.


I-New Gen Award 2026 Gold Medal Recipients
- BrewNutrient: Plant Nutrients Derived from Brewery Waste
A team from the Faculty of Science transformed brewery industry byproducts into nutrient-rich plant supplements, advancing circular economy principles and sustainable agricultural practices. The project was developed by Petcharin Charoenrat, Poosin Somwang, Dr. Nittaya Kaewpraek, and Prof. Dr. Sanong Ekgasit.
- Bio-Based Coating Technology for Conservation and Preserving of Teak Structural Wood in Mrigadayavan Palace
Researchers from the developed an environmentally friendly coating technology to conserve and protect the historic golden teak structures of?Mrigadayavan?Palace. The innovation contributes to the preservation of Thailand’s cultural heritage through advanced materials science.?The project was led by?Pornnatcha?Phetcharach, Dr.?Lunjakorn?Amornkitbamrung, and Prof.?Dr. Sarawut?Rimdusit.?
